Cafe Minh in New Orleans

so I have the pleasure of posting on behalf of a guest foodie, Shaun:
Overall, this was an “epic” meal featuring clever integrations of European and Asian influences, generous portions, surprisingly tasteful atmosphere (given the crude exterior), just the right amount of service (the waiter was attentive, but not invasive), and a wide selection of menu items to accommodate all tastes.

The highlight was the rack of lamb, which emphasized the rich flavors unique to lamb with a most appealing presentation, individual slabs leaning together over a cake of layered potato slices.

Second place goes easily to the Korean style short ribs, also satisfying carnivorous tendencies, with au jus balanced against complex sweetness and spices.

The lacquered duck lived up to my expectations in terms of its crispy, flavorful skin and moist, tamed-game goodness beneath. Unfortunately, the accompanying steamed bok choy, though fresh, was a little bland, and the sticky rice possessed a slightly gritty texture.

The bouillabaisse scored high marks for its piquant, saffron-dense broth and fresh mussels, as well as the deft incorporation of very Vietnamese vermicelli, though neither the fish nor scallops within were particularly vibrant.

Finally, I was able to sample a small amount of tofu, prepared with vegetables in light gravy with a brilliant lemongrass accent. An admirable option for the herbivorous clientele.

I’d recommend Cafe Minh especially to anyone curious about combining Creole and Asian cuisines, or to those seeking a reasonable, upscale lunch spot in the Mid-City area.”

I'm a food aficionado with an interest in photography. Most of my restaurants will be in New Orleans as I will be here over the next few years. Every now and then you will see a post from Boston or Philadelphia too!
