Il Posto Cafe in New Orleans

Il Posto Cafe
4607 Draydes Ave.
New Orleans, LA

I’ll let you in on a little secret I’ve figured out all on my own. The secret to eating at “Spot Light” places with as little wait as possible is to go early! People in New Orleans eat late! For lunch, I’ll try to get there by 11:30 AM and for dinner I’ll try to get there by 6 PM. I guarantee you will have minimum wait if you follow these guidelines. So how do you know a place is good? If they’re packed at 11:20 AM like Il Posto was. I was very excited for this outing because I had heard this had won the Best Panini award in New Orleans. This is a quaint cafe that kinda blends in with the other houses in the residential area. You’ll notice that parking becomes impossible when you reach the correct block. I went in and the guy working at the cash register was very friendly in describing the various cheeses to me that are used in the panini sandwiches, and then going thru the various hot drinks before I placed my order of the Prosciutto panini with basil pesto & fresh mozzarella on ciabatta and hazelnut steamer with coffee.  The bread was heavenly! the perfect amount of crisp and flavor. the mozzarella was a soft flavor with perfect texture somewhere between firm and melted. The prosciutto offered a unique flavor that did not dominate over the other ingredients. I think what really worked about this sandwich was that everything was in perfect harmony with each other, I thought the only thing I would taste was the prosciutto and petso, but i was so wrong. My hazelnut steamer was perfect, i didn’t have to change anything (I was a little hesitant about getting soy milk instead of skim milk but I thought what the heck, might as well). My friend had the caprese sandwich and couldn’t get enough, she finished her entire sandwich in the time I had eaten my side salad and a few bites of half of mine. Overall, this was a great lunch and not too pricey (i mean I wouldn’t spend $10 on a grilled cheese sandwich which was also on the menu, but I would for a panini with a side salad).

I’ve been meaning to check this place out but it is so tucked away that I just happened to barely notice the sign while biking past it. I think I need to plan a lunch date soon just to go!
